Dark green is my favourite colour! I would paint most of the rooms in my home that colour if the hubs liked it as much as I do! It was therefore natural for me to prepare the Legume Kitchen design board for some green kitchen inspiration!
The feel throughout the room is cosy and modern with a hint of cottage decor. You want a kitchen to be functional but also hardwearing. You don’t want to have to worry if you put a pot down on your countertop for example!
This style incorporates the beautiful classic colours of the English countryside with durable materials, all while being practical. This design has so much texture and details that it will stay in style throughout the seasons and over the years.

When renovating a kitchen, the countertops should be the last place to save money. On the contrary, most of your budget must be invested in this prominent element that works the hardest in all kitchens (except us chefs of course!)
Several points to go over before purchasing; I think it’s a good idea to go for a material that can be worked on directly, for baking for example. You want a piece which is easy to clean, does not stain and is smooth so no food can be left in any gaps. You’ll also want to enquire about its lifespan, anything under 10 years is a no-no. Ideally, a nice chunky piece of solid wood that can take the brunt and then simply be sanded down and refinished would be perfect!
Don’t be afraid to mix and match countertops; marble on the island and wood up against the walls. Think about how you would use the kitchen and which material is better where.
I’m not a fan of gold but I truly believe this green isn’t supposed to have any other colour for handles. I like the hardware above because, although it’s a classic design, the hexagon gives it a modern twist that won’t go out of style. It’s all in the details.
Get handsy with the hardware in the store before buying! You need to make sure it’s comfortable.
These tiles are some of the cheapest on the market. They give an amazing effect with the black ground. I could also imagine the dining room table having three rows down the middle so you can place hot items straight onto it. These tiles are an essential part of the Legume Kitchen design board.
If possible overbuy some of the materials in case any damage happens over the years but also, so you can find ways to incorporate them into the rest of the room to bring the look together.
Do you realise how many times you use your kitchen sink in just one day? You want a tap that matches your needs! Classic designs can be gorgeous but very impractical if like me you must clean around your sink 15 times a day. Again, this is about what’s important from a functional point of view and then start looking at what styles are available.
You need a lot of variations when it comes to light sources in a kitchen. These hanging domes will bring a nice glow while giving texture to the room. The rattan also gives an opportunity to carry a natural feel throughout the house for a more cohesive look. Remember, you’ll want to budget for hanging lights, ceiling spotlights and under-counter at least…
If possible install the hanging bulbs on a dimmer switch so you can adjust them depending on what you are doing. Cosy vibes!
I’ve gone for traditional shapes that do not lean towards any resemblance to the splash-back tiles. We do not want any matchy-matchy! Again, you need easy to clean but dark grey will hide a multitude of sins if you didn’t get a chance to hoover before the guests arrived…
If you have a pet that sheds like me, take some of their fur to the shop with you and place it on the tile so you can see how much contrast there is.
You can never have too many plants in any room of the house! Think big and over the top if you need an odd corner to be filled or small & cute for the window seal look. Plants should be featured everywhere on the Legume Kitchen design board, but you’ll want to pick the correct ones for the amount of light that the room gets throughout the day.
Happy Kitchen Designing!
